Joanne Lee is an artist, writer, publisher and lecturer whose work explores a curiosity about everyday life. This talk will focus on the form of the humble plastic bag, which will be the starting point for ‘Witches knickers’, an upcoming edition of the Pam Flett Press, her independent serial publication. Drawing upon Ursula Le Guin’s 'carrier bag theory of fiction' in which books are like bags, able to hold words and ideas ‘in particular, powerful relation to one another and to us’, it will use the form of the bag as a thing to think with. Aspects of this work in progress have been recently presented in 'Green and Pleasant Land?' an exhibition at The Harris Museum and Art Gallery Preston, and in 'Provocative Plastics', a conference at Arts University Bournemouth.
